The SonSet® radio, which is fixed-tuned and solar powered, was developed by the HCJB Global Technology Center and is a rugged, handheld radio for use in remote areas of the world.

The SonSet® radio receives a pre-programmed frequency and is powered by batteries that are recharged through an attached solar panel. The radio is designed to be resistant to moisture, rain and dust.

Families have been known to travel dozens of miles on foot to obtain one of these sets. “The people are crying for the radios,” one South African woman told a local radio station manager.

In addition to the gospel, families hear programs discussing local healthcare issues, agricultural tips, ways to resolve conflict in their relationships and music that will uplift their spirits.
