"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
-- Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)
FoundationsThe HCJB Global Technology Center (formerly known as the HCJB World Radio Engineering Center) began in an effort to design and build specialized, cost-effective shortwave transmitters. The first time a group of HCJB Global engineers accepted an offer from the Moore family to work in Elkhart, Indiana, they were tasked to build a 500,000-watt shortwave transmitter capable of penetrating any Russian jamming effort. In early 1975, missionaries began setting up offices, a machine shop, and an assembly area at the Crown International plant in Elkhart, Indiana. At that time, a special relationship existed between HCJB Global and Crown International via its founder, Clarence Moore, who had served with HCJB in Ecuador as chief engineer during its early days. "Project 500" began in 1975, and was completed in 1980 with the installation of the HC500 in Ecuador in 1981. In September 1985, HCJB Global accepted the World by 2000 challenge with earnest. The vision of this commitment was--by the year 2000--to provide every man, woman, and child on earth with the opportunity to turn on a radio and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ in a way and language they could understand so they could become responsible members of His Church. The Moore family (with Clarence's son, Clyde) again extended the invitation to HCJB to take up residence at Crown International, this time as the HCJB Global Technology Center. The goal was to build 100,000-watt shortwave transmitters for World by 2000 ministry partners. In the spring of 1987, the Technology Center was officially established under the direction of David Pasechnik. Although shortwave radio was the only concern at the time, it has expanded to include research, development, training, and technical support for FM transmitters, radio automation systems, satellite distribution, antennas, and more.
The Technology Center exists to develop and assist Christian radio ministries around the world, as part of the "World by Radio" commitment--an association of international Christian broadcasting organizations who are committed to fulfilling the original goal of the World by 2000 vision. World by Radio is a joint commitment by FEBA, Far East Broadcasting Company, SIM International, HCJB Global, and Trans World Radio working together with broadcast-related ministries such as Back to the Bible Broadcasts, Galcom, IBRA Radio, and Words of Hope. |
