![]() | The school for missionary children in Shell began as a dream of Mission Aviation Fellowship pilot Nate Saint. He was one of five missionaries martyred by the Waorani Indians on January 8, 1956. Before his death, Nate expressed how important he felt it was for children to be able to attend school close to home and be with their parents during their tender years. Classes in Shell began in August 1964 in the home of Charlotte Swanson, the first teacher. Construction of the present two-story building, including the teacher's apartment, began in August 1965, and was dedicated January 8, 1966, on the tenth anniversary of Nate Saint's death. In 1967 the school was transferred from MAF to HCJB World Radio, and in 1981 a new building was added to facilitate seventh and eighth grade classes. |
