Quesla: World Traveler

Waorani on the runwayQuesla got up early this morning and went out on the runway in Shell. The elevation at Shell is 3,400 feet. She's standing next to the mile-long paved runway. The buildings on the other side of the runway are part of the military base in Shell.

Quesla is gazing at the magnificent peaks of El Altar, an extinct volcano in the Andes. It's hard to see in this photo, but Altar is in the center, under the medium sized cloud.

This was an absolutely beautiful morning. The volcano Sangay was not visible, but it was breathtaking to watch Altar turn from orange to a glowing white color. When Quesla first arrived at the runway at 6:15 AM, a dark grey puff of ash could be seen coming from the volcano Tungarahua. How exciting to be so close to the volcanos of the Andes mountain range!
