The Capital l The People l The Animals

There are three main land regions in Ecuador: The Andes Mountains, the Pacific Coast and the Amazon Jungle. And one unique region off the coast: the Galapagos Islands.

The Andes Mountains run through the center of Ecuador from north to south. It is known as the Avenue of the Volcanoes. In fact, Chimborazo, the world’s tallest active volcano (20,823 ft) is there. Chimborazo also marks the farthest point from the center of the earth due to the fact that the earth bulges at the equator.

The Coast borders the Pacific Ocean. Because of that, Ecuador is the largest exporter of shrimp in the world. It also has some wonderful beaches, which has helped their tourist industry.

The eastern jungle makes up 3% of the entire Amazon jungle spanning South America. Within Ecuador’s portion alone one can find 1500 species of birds and more than 400 species of trees!

The Galapagos Islands are off the coast of Ecuador. Some of the most interesting and unique animals in the world can be found here.
