The Land l The Capital l The Animals

Many different kinds of people live in Australia, but most agree that Australians are very friendly! They also love sports, especially football (or soccer), rugby, horse racing and swimming.

Most people in Australia can trace their ancestry back to Europe or Asia. Although perhaps the people that are most recognizable are the Aborigines.

Their dark skin and shorter stature set them apart from most other Australians. The aborigines received their name from the English settlers, but they call themselves Koori. They have one of the oldest surviving civilizations on earth. The aborigines don't have a written history, but carry on traditions through storytelling, art and dance. They used to hunt animals with spears and boomerangs. In 1967, they received the right to vote as Australians.
