HVO Story of the Month - January 2007Chaplain's Great JoyI have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth (III John:4).
This is a Bible verse that Jesús Montero, chaplain at Hospital Vozandes-Shell, can claim many times over as he discovers believers adhering to biblical Christianity years after he has had the joy of leading them to Christ. A man who has been active in Christian work for many years in another province recently came to visit Jesús. This man began his Christian walk in the chaplain's office. Another person who took her first steps as a Christian in the chaplain's office is Irma. Irma, Edgar and their children live in the town of Puyo, about five miles from Shell. Four years ago Irma arrived at the outpatient clinic for an appointment with Dr. Smalligan. The doctor, no doubt sensing her spiritual need, not only attended to her medical need but also directed her to Jesús’ office. There Irma was made aware of her deepest need – the need of a Savior. Only in the Lord Jesus could she find forgiveness and eternal life. She gladly accepted Him as her personal Savior. After this she continued attending the outpatient clinic if one of her family needed medical attention, and one time she herself was hospitalized for a short time. A couple of months’ ago Irma showed up again, this time in the emergency room with appendicitis. She was taken straight to surgery for the removal of the problem. Next day as Jesús made his daily round of patients he was surprised to see Irma smiling up at him. As is his custom, he shared the Word with her and prayed for her and her family. He found that she is walking faithfully with the Lord and attending a good church in Puyo. Unfortunately her marriage is not the best and her husband Edgar is still not a Christian. Please pray for Irma and her family, that they might all be united in Christ. |
