Community Development Vozandes
Community Development Vozandes is a department of HCJB’s Health Care Division in Ecuador. The
work in community development began in 1979 out of a concern to provide preventative and curative
health care for rural people in Ecuador who could not easily take advantage of HCJB’s two
hospitals in Quito and Shell. Community Development Vozandes operates seven urban family
practice clinics; a rural family practice clinic in San Lorenzo; a medical caravan ministry for
remote communities; a tropical disease/parasite laboratory; a clean water program to help
communities obtain clean drinking water & sanitation, and programs to train rural health
workers/promoters in several provinces.
Few rural Ecuadorian communities have convenient access to suitable quality drinking water.
Additionally, a follow-up program provides training in water system management and hygiene.
Evangelism, discipleship and pastoral training are an integral part of the program.
When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none ... I the God of Israel will not forsake them. Isaiah 41:17
The medical caravan ministry is the main evangelistic tool of Vozandes Community
Development. Approximately once a month, staff members visit rural areas and poor city
neighborhoods, offering care where no public health facilities exist.
These family practice and eye clinics bring affordable, Christ-centered medical care
primarily to mainly poor people in Quito and other cities of Ecuador. Hopefully, people will
find both physical and spiritual healing when they walk through the door of one of our clinics.
