Action 'n' Adventure
navigation bar The Ants and the Raft (cont.)

Kolo, the ant, looked across the dusty ground from his perch on a thornbush branch. The ground below was crackling from the heat. There had been no rain for weeks.

Kolo licked his dry lips wishing for just a taste of a sweet mango. But there was no food to be found on this side of the river.

From his seat high above the ground, Kolo could see a mango tree with ripening fruit, but he knew he could never reach it. A big river separated him from the tree and he knew he could never swim that far. He was afraid that he would starve.

As Kolo continued to stare across the river, he heard someone crying beneath him. He peered over the edge of the branch and saw another ant sitting on a rock far below him.

"Why are you crying?" Kolo asked the other ant.
