navigation bar African Game

This game is played throughout Africa and has been given many different names and has had many different rules. Obviously you do not have a wooden tray with carved-out cups or tree seeds to use as game chips, but you can play this African game anyway.

You'll need:

l 2 Players

l 1 dozen egg carton (empty)

l 48 dried beans or pebbles (24 for each player)

How to play:

Start out with four beans or pebbles in each cup of the egg carton. Each player takes a side of the carton (6 cups each). Player #1 picks up four beans from one cup on his side and places one bean in each cup, moving in a circle around the carton. He then picks up the beans from the cup in which he placed the last bean and drops one bean in the next cup, etc. He continues this process until he drops his last bean into an empty cup. He then takes the beans in the cup opposite that cup. This process may take a while. Player #2 then repeats this process ending when she drops her last bean into an empty cup and then takes the beans from the cup opposite hers. When she has finished, it is then Player #1's turn. This continues until there are no more beans to pick up. Whoever has the most beans at the end of the game wins!
