Jim Allen

Acting President, HCJB Global

James “Jim” Allen, born in New Kensington, Pa., on Sept. 23, 1942, began serving with HCJB Global in 1984 after pastoring churches in the western U.S. for 21 years.

Jim graduated from Biola University in La Mirada, Calif. (1964) and has a master’s degree in religious education from Talbot Seminary, also in La Mirada (1966), as well as a doctor of ministry from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in Portland, Oregon (1980). His pastoral ministry includes 10 years as senior pastor at Montavilla Baptist Church in Portland.

He married Patricia “Trish” Hood in August 1963.

“Probably the most outstanding memory from my first years in ministry is serving in a church in southern California,” he says. “It grew from approximately 300 people to more than 1,000 in less than two years. It was my privilege to baptize more than 350 people while I was there.”

After joining HCJB Global, Jim initially served as assistant to the president and interim pastor of English Fellowship Church in Quito, a ministry to the English-speaking community and founded by the mission.

In 1997 Jim was elected senior vice president of HCJB Global, a position that placed him on the Board of Trustees. On June 16, 2008, he was named Acting President of the mission.

Jim said a highlight of his service at HCJB Global has been ministering in more than 60 countries around the world. “Trish and I get our deepest satisfaction from seeing God work in the hearts and lives of missionaries and from knowing that He allows us to be a part of His in people’s lives around the globe.”

Another satisfying experience for Jim has been ministering to people in the Ecuadorian jungles. “I thoroughly enjoyed traveling with the mobile medical clinics in isolated communities, sharing their ministry—even pulling teeth!”

Jim and Trish have two daughters, Brenda (’65) and Deann (’67), as well as five grandchildren.
