 For years, HCJB Global has used fixed-tuned solar powered radios to reach people located within the broadcast areas of local FM radio stations in order to allow them to hear the gospel in their own language. These radios have had a tremendous impact in the lives of people by allowing them to hear the gospel without needing batteries, and by keeping the radio tuned only to the local Christian station.
As effective as these radios were, the need for a newer, more durable, and more sensitive radio based on the latest technology became evident. In the fall of 2001, under the direction of the Technology Center, students from various Christian colleges began the initial research and development for this new design of solar-powered radio. The final design and testing of this new fixed-tuned solar-powered SonSet® radio has been completed and production is underway, allowing ministry partners to put radios in the hands of those who need to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. The interest in, and need for this new radio is great.
