New media multiplies spread of gospel

By mixing new forms of media with the “tried and true,” HCJB Global Voice and its partners are sharing the gospel in more areas than ever before. Here are some highlights of 2011:

Burkina Faso Radio Studio Bobo
HCJB Global Voice’s partner station in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, broadcasts a message of hope and peace during civil unrest.
Impfondo
An engineer from the HCJB Global Technology Center repairs the communication system at Pioneer Christian Hospital in Impfondo, Republic of Congo.

•  Made it possible for millions to hear the gospel via broadcasts from nearly 400 partner stations in about 100 countries.

•  Got survey results showing that weekly listenership to Arabic programs in the North Africa/Middle East Region (via shortwave and satellite) increased to 1.75 million.

•  Accelerated the use of new media with a focus on millennials but attracting users of all ages; averaged 6,000 cell phone text messages monthly in Latin America; attracted 25,000 online listeners monthly to FM in Quito; reached 10,000 friends on the local radio Facebook page, 80 percent of whom are actively commenting and posting.

•  Joined with FEBA Radio in an initiative involving new media.

•  Received 1 million visits to the Spotlight English Club website (spotlightradio.net) with 400,000 visitors speaking 160 languages in 215 countries.

•  Adopted a dual radio format in the Latin America Region with both evangelistic and discipleship programs.

•  Helped equip the Missionary Training Center’s recording studio in Restrepo, Colombia, where students will produce programs for 25 indigenous groups.

•  Led more than 151 listeners to Christ as a result of local broadcasts in Quito.

•  Partnered with Hope for the Heart to produce the first radio program in Portuguese through SERVIR, Radio Station HCJB’s radio production agency.

•  Planted the first four of 100 community radio stations across Thailand and provided equipment for five others.

•  Assisted 108 ministries in 62 countries with the help of staff members from the HCJB Global Technology Center in Elkhart, IN.

•  Received more than 300 contacts a week from listeners in response to the program, “Beyond Words,” being produced by a local partner for India’s national FM network.

•  Upgraded partner Wantok Radio Light in Papua New Guinea with a new satellite feed, enabling it to expand its network, including two recently added stations.

•  Sent 10,920 solar-powered, fixed-tuned radios to nine countries so that more people and villages could listen to partners’ radio stations and learn about Jesus.
